Tutorial: Easy Tone on Tone Background + Blog Brownies

Need an easy (and forgiving) way to create background with dimension and depth? You are in the right place!

These backgrounds feature images from the Heather's Big Bold Blossoms plate from gg Designs Stamps. Keep reading for a chance to win this stamp sheet.

Easy Tone on Tone Background

Supplies
White matte cardstock

Chalk Ink Pads (here ColorBox Cat's Eyes)- 2 similiar colors

Small/ Medium semi-solid stamps

Background stamp with an open texture (here clay texture stamp)

Step 1: Lightly dab or swipe the cardstock with some of the lighter shade of ink, leave some white space if desired. Or omit this step completely. Don't worry about it being perfect.

Step 2: Ink a small stamp with the same color ink and randomly stamp the image. Try going off the edge, or stamping twice without reinking (2nd generation stamping.) Don't worry about overlapping the images but try to leave some empty spaces for the next step. How visible the images are will depend on how much ink you applied in the previous step.

Step 3: After cleaning the stamp, ink it with the darker shade of ink and stamp randomly in the open spaces. Overlapping the other images is fine and adds depth. For the samples the ratio of light to dark images is approximately 2:1.

Step 4: Apply the lighter shade of ink to the background stamp and stamp the entire background.

Step 5: Admire (and use your finished background!)

This is one background I will create time and again. The "Progress, not Perfection" finished card is genius.
