Postage Due at the Cottage

Do you own a pair of Fiskars stamp edge scissors?

Do you want to know who sent me a postage due package?

Do you want to see my other two samples?

The answer to all these questions are on my post at the Clear Artistic Stamps Cottage.

Bonus information: As I was taking a photo of this card from my deck this morning, a gust of wind blew it over the edge and face down onto my wet grass. 3 cheers for permanent ink pads and markers. I was able to save it with minimal work.

I Dig Sunshine Stamps

You may have noticed a few changes in my sidebar... earlier this week Christina Bower, the owner of Sunshine Stamps invited me to be on the design team for the next 3 months! It was a wonderful surprise and the team is a bunch of fun, very talented stampers.

This image is called Lenny Loader but I turned him into Lovely Laverne. I don't usually work with such bright colors but I had fun dolling up a truck with flowers and bling!

More SheetLoad Sneak Peeks

The August issue of SheetLoad of Cards will be live on Saturday! SheetLoad is a free monthly e-zine featuring a single sketch and cutting guides to create multiple cards quickly. Each month a group of designers create sample cards using images from a sponsoring company. Beyond the Card is a monthly feature devoted to non-card projects such as scrapbook layouts, altered items and more.

I'll be one of the featured artists in the August issue. I don't want to STEP on anyone's toes but I think you'll get a KICK out of my samples.

Cupcake Platter For You

All of the stamps on this card are from Pink Persimmon. The cupcake platter is actually multiple stamps from the Tea and Cake set. Since they are clear stamps it was a cinch to align it all. The greeting is from Flower Greetings set. The pinwheel candy is from the Little Cuties set and is easy to color and color and color.

I actually made this card last night but by the time I finished it was too dark to take a photo. Someday, I am going to set up a little photo area for indoor pictures.

The ribbon is from my Offray stash. I visited their store today. I bought ribbon, some embellishments and some butterflies made out of feathers. You'll see them soon enough.

Kim's MAF Card Tag Revealed

My teammate and fellow Leo, Kim, hosted a round of card tag on Memories Always Forever which is a new website for scrappers and stampers and altered artists and beaders. Anyway, we finished the round so Kim revealed the cards today on her blog.

This is Bev's card. Bev didn't play but she inspired our hostess Kim when she uploaded this gorgeous card to the MAF gallery. (My note- if you like Magnolia Stamps or the like you MUST check out Bev's blog)

So, here is Kim's lift of Bev's card:

MAF Card Tag 2

Kim sent her card to Deanne, who came up with this!

friendsfureverDEANNEjuly09

So, Deanne’s card was passed on to Vanessa, who made a tri-fold card! Still the same basic layout…

Vanessa3

Vanessa’s card went to Heidi, who went with a new color scheme – it looks like she may have made her background paper…?….

Heidi 4

Heidi’s card went to me, who switched up the color scheme again, but the tri-fold card remains a constant. All of my stamps were from Pink Persimmon.

heather5

Heather’s card was sent to Dawn.

Dawn6

Chris took Dawn’s card, and came up with this!

mudmaven7

Chris’ card went to Joakima, who lifted the flower motif, but added her own flair:

Joakima8

Joakima’s card went to Etha who flipped the basic sketch on its side, and came up with this!

Monica (founder of Memories Always Forever) flipped the layout again, but stuck with the flowers and butterfly:

Happy Birthday ala Paisley

I love paisley prints so this paper was a no brainer to use for my Dad's birthday card. He got it in the mail yesterday and opened it so I'm safe to show you now.

SFYTT + a rarity

One of my favorite weekly sketch challenges is Jen del Muro's SFYTT. I got my card all done and realized that I sort of missed a lower layer but I like the card. And I'm not trying to win a prize- so we'll call it "inspired by" and call it a day!

The background is a polymer clay texture stamp. I don't do clay but I do like the stamp. Ditto the dressform stamp which is by the defunct Designs Ink'd (some of their stamps are available from Blockheads). I colored it with Copics and permanent markers and thought the dress looked a bit dull and lifeless. So I added a layer of Gold Glimmer Blingz. Instant party dress! I really like how easy it is to add shine- you brush it on like paint and it dries fast.

The rarity? Buttons! I know some crafters use them frequently but I rarely use them and even busted open a new pack of them to find just the right ones for my card. And I do mean busted open- it was the most impossible blister pack ever!

Don't Forget - July at SheetLoad of Cards

Don't forget that the July issue of SheetLoad of Cards is available for download and there is still time to enter the monthly challenges and win FREE digital stamps from the July sponsor, Squigglefly!!
Head on over today and find out how to enter the July Shout Out to SheetLoad and Show Us Your SheetLoad contests.

Birthday Blues SC238

I loved the SCS sketch for this week and I made 2 cards with it. This one and a more masculine one for my Dad's birthday, which is Tuesday. I even got the card into the mail for him so he'll get it on time!

My Mom bought this paper for me from The Paper Studio and I love it. I have made a few cards with it. The cupcake is from Pink Persimmon and the other images are Studio G. I distressed the edges of the card with distress ink and added Stickles to the cupcake, gift and flowers but I really struggled to get a decent photo. Take my word for it- definitely looks better in real life!

I am on antibiotics, my husband too- he has strep I have ick- but not strep. We have houseguests and I'm trying to do the other 3,000 things I need to get done!

Lady of Mystery/ Simple, Special, Stunning

I've had this image of a woman (from Hearts in Touch) for a long time so I decided she needed to see some ink. I stamped the amulet image from the Wanderlust Artisian Stamps (they don't have a website). I played with permanent and watercolor markers to get the 12 or so shades of green.

Simple, Special, Stunning
The purpose of "Simple Special Stunning" is to show how each issue of SheetLoad can be adapted for papercrafters of all levels. My SheetLoad teammate, Jessica George created 3 cards for this special monthly feature. Check it out HERE!

New Digital Stamp Company- Sunshine Stamps

There is a new digital stamp company called Sunshine Stamps. I saw some cool samples on my friend Tami's blog. The images are perfect for boy cards- trucks and airplanes and cool stuff. This image is called Lenny Loader.

I made this for a birthday party my daughter will be attending Saturday. She informed me the card is too babyish for an 8 year old. So... I might save this for the soon to be 4 year old across the street from me!

Diggin' Your Birthday
Stamps: Sunshine Stamps (truck); PTI (dots); Sentiment (Studio G)

Sunday Sassy

Here is another version of CamoGirl from Squigglefly which I created using the July SheetLoad sketch. I kept her simple and chose a bolder DP. I colored her belt silver to match the silver flowers. Her capri's are old so I made them faded and comfy like a pair of faded blue jeans.

Yesterday we had a garage sale and we did pretty well but I was surprised that I sold hardly any of my mounted stamps or scrapbook stuff. I donated what I didn't sell (less my stamps) so maybe somebody will find my stuff at Goodwill and enjoy it.

I finished a fantastic book. I read it cover to cover in 1.5 days and it was the best book I have read in months. It is by Lisa See and is called Shanghai Girls. It is about 2 sisters who escape from Shanghai in the 1930's. I don't normally like history but the historical context in the story was fascinating. Good characters, excellent plot and definitely some curve balls thrown in that I never saw coming (which I like!)

How is this card like my Mom's kitchen?

How is this card like my Mom's kitchen? What a crazy question- I know you are thinking, "Heather has sniffed to much embossing powder." Well actually my Mom has gorgeous tile in her kitchen and on some of the tiles she has handpainted pictures of ducks. So tile/ mosaics are my inspiration today.

To see more details about this card (+ 2 more) check out my post In the Cottage Studio today.

The second photo is a giant strawberry. I leaned it against our 1/2 gallon of milk so you could see how wide it is. It really doesn't have anything to do with crafting but isnt it neat?

My First Triple Challenge!

I know there are ladies out there who can pile on 18 different challenges on the same card but I'm starting simple! Today I combined SCS Sketch #237 + 365 Cards- Day 136 (Black, White & Red) + Inky Impressions challenges #6 (A Stitch in Time). Yesterday when I saw the red/white/black and since it is a favorite color combo, I made a mental note. When I saw Maria Bell's card today, I knew I had to try the stitching challenge. Maria Bell is an incredibly talented stamper so you need to go look at her blog AFTER you ooh and ahh over my card! Right before it was time to stamp I realized it was Wednesday so I checked out the sketch for the week at SCS and I liked it!

Today I stamped for myself so I simply chose papers and supplies that I like :)

My First Triple Challenge
Stamps: Kitchen Sink Stamps (flower), Daisy Bucket Hill (scrolls), Stampendous (sentiment)
Ink: ColorBox Chalk
Paper: CTMH

Brads: Making Memories

Ribbon: Offray

Glitz: Stickles

Quick Rocker Birthday Card

I split my time today painting our guest bedroom trim, playing with my daughter, finishing a card for August SheetLoad and doing laundry. My daughter asked me to make her a card for her friend.

Little Rocker is from Squigglefly (July SheetLoad sponsor), the greeting from Studio G, and the DP from Miss Elizabeth. I was able to use scraps which always makes me happy. I have had that green dotted paper forever and I use it and use it and still haven't finished the sheet of it!

What's growing in my garden?

I got this all uploaded and realized the little vellum ladybug that is supposed to be in the lower right corner must have fallen off the card. If you find it put it on top of my card pile on my dining room table- no questions asked!

GardenGrow is a digital image from Squigglefly, July sponsor of SheetLoad of Cards e-zine. To see more cards made with this sketch (and Squigglefly stamps) click on the card to download the July issue.

Over the past few days, I have been very busy creating pretty things in my studio. Most of them are for the August issue of SheetLoad so I can't show you yet. Some others you'll see this week.

Today my husband took a vacation day and while he worked outside sanding our deck, my daughter and I made cards in my air conditioned studio. My husband and I made a stir fry, egg rolls and 2 kinds of rice for dinner and then dropped off our daughter at VBS. She lamented, she complained, she told us she would NOT have a good time. She seemed to thaw a bit when she got her new T-shirt and baseball cap but I left feeling a bit guilty. My husband and I dashed through the supermarket, dropped off a DVD to a friend and went for a short walk. Our daughter was all smiles and happy as could be when we picked her up! She met 2 classmates (1 had moved away mid school year) and a girl she met at 4H camp 2 weeks ago. She can't wait to go back tomorrow night!

Rock Out Mosaic Card

I am proud of this card because it looks close to what I had planned for it. Sometimes I have trouble getting my mind's eye onto paper. The "Little Rocker" image is from Squigglefly. I actually cut the oval and as I was distressing its edges, I realized that the perfect sentiment would be from "A Little Note" set from Clear Artistic Stamps.

I had a sudden inspiration to make mosaic "tiles" from lime green paper and I realized the notes would fit perfectly. I cut an oval from some purple DP (Miss Elizabeth), cut a scrap of black paper and voila!

The tag below is what I created for Rumble #11. My mom and my friend Brenda wanted to see the whole thing and they both said please ;) The details for the tag are in the Rumble post.

Yesterday, Michelle Giraud left me a comment about the card I made for the Caardvarks challenge. She is at the top of my list of favorite stamp artists and I was so excited. Today we had to drive past a scrapbook store and my husband told me to go have fun. They had Memento ink pads, which I have been dying to try and I grabbed a few extra colors of Stickles. We also had to stop at Staples and the Bic Mark It Markers that I LOVE (not as good as Copics but cheaper) are available in ultra fine points. And they have them open stock so you can buyt individual colors for 99 cents each! I grabbed pink and lavender. They didn't have my favorite green in ultra fine... yet.

Can you hear Rumble 11?

Every other Friday the DT from Clear Artistic Stamps Rumbles in with a new challenge- and you can win a prize for playing! If you use Clear Artistic Stamps or a Technique Junkies technique you can earn bonus entries.

To the left is a snippet of my project. For the details of the challenge, check out this entry from the In the Cottage Studio blog!

Polka Dots Keep Falling on My Head

The main image is called April Showers and is from Squigglefly, July sponsor for SheetLoad. The sentiment is from PTI.

I actually started with a white background and the red layer and it morphed into yellow with polka dots and then more dots!

Since I create more cards than I can use, I am donating my extra cards to ShareaCard.org so they can be shared with people who need some extra cheer in their lives.

Caardvarks challenge featuring SheetLoad and ShortCuts

Caardvarks hosts bi-monthly challenges and the current challenge features using the July SheetLoad sketch and ShortCuts products. The details of the challenge are on the SheetLoad blog HERE and you can link your creations to the Caardvarks challenge HERE.

For my card I used a scrap of denim DP as my inspiration and I added the floral elements and the funky crown. The Camogirl image is from Squigglefly digital stamps and "fleur" is from Above the Mark.

Good Day Turtle

Honestly, the simpler the card, the longer it takes me to make it. I spent over an hour getting this card done. The turtle is from Squigglefly (SheetLoad sponsor for July), and the sentiment from gg designs'.

The DP is from an ancient pack of Miss Elizabeth paper that I don't like very much but it worked well with the turtle. Originally, I meant to color the flower orange and had orange stuff picked out to go with the card but it ended up so red looking that I had to change course.

This afternoon I got 2 surprises in the mail. One was a Netflix movie that I expected tomorrow. The second was my goodies from Clear Artistic Stamps! I got 2 stamp sets, some gorgeous linen texture cardstock and 2 colors of Shimmerz and 2 colors of Blingz. And best of all a gorgeous card from Belinda, the owner of the company welcoming me to the design team. And what did I do 2 hours earlier? I forgot our weekly design team meeting! Last week I made fun of our DT coordinator, Etha, for arriving late. She got the last laugh on me today!

No card for today

I opened a brand new, never been opened a clear Ranger Perfect Medium mini pad tonight and tried to "ink" a stamp with it. The sponge disintegrated, resulting in pieces of the sponge pad on my stamping surface and on my brand new rubber stamp. I threw the pad away- I bought it when they first came out and it must have been part of their original defective batch. I also bought a bottle of Perfect Medium so I cut a piece of a Ranger Cut 'n' Dry foam pad and inked that to use as my stamp pad. The medium stinks and has a yellowish cast. So it went bad too. I used it anyway to emboss a few things and it worked fine. Once I melted the embossing powder (which by the way was also a Ranger product!) the smell went away. I used some Nick Bantock inks on top of the embossing for a batik effect.

Then my daughter needed me and I just don't feel like stamping anymore.

So I'll be back from vacation tomorrow!

Clear Artistic Stamps Card Tag Round #1 Reveal

My first post appears In the Cottage Studio blog today.

Recently, I played in my first round of card tag and enjoyed it so much that I played 3 subsequent rounds (it doesn't have to be paper or stamps to be addicting!) I wanted to put a twist on the game so I hosted a round of card tag where the players had to use Clear Artistic Stamps. There were only 4 players this time but next time we'll have more. I won't single anyone out (LISA) but next time will be a bigger round.

Card tag is played like this: Player #1 makes a card and sends a picture of it to player #2, who makes a card inspired by #1 card. Then Player #3 makes a card based on player #2's card. Players only see their "inspiration" card so part of the fun is the reveal at the end to see how the cards evolved.

So many thanks to Wendi, Etha and Belinda!

Here is my card. I used images from A Little Note.

Wendi followed the sketch using images from Sympathy Garden.

Etha slanted her focal image (Echoes of Summer), used the same DP and added more circular embellishments to her corner.

Company owner, Belinda, finished the round once again using Echoes of Summer. I just love that shimmer paper.

Charitable causes update and a card

Here is another card based on the SheetLoad of Cards sketch for July. I didn't add an embellishment to the upper left corner but I think the card is complete without it. The images, called April Showers is from Squigglefly. The duck is from Studio G and I created with yellow background with Polka Dot Basics from PTI.

A Call to Serve: The Butterfly Project is a special project and you can fine the details on Craft Critique today. Consider creating a butterfly for this worthy project. Some of my talented teammates will be sharing technique tutorials over the next few days.

Last week I posted a link to an organization called ShareaCard.org. I'm sending them a bunch of my SheetLoad and other cards that I had in large piles on my stamp table.

SheetLoad + My News

Happy Wednesday, July 1, 2009! How can it be July already?

The new issue of SheetLoad is available. Click on the cover (or my card) to download it.

I made this card featuring the July sketch and the image (Camo Girl) is from our July sponsor, Squigglefly. Absolutely love their images! I had so much fun working with them. Last month I printed a stack of them and colored and colored with my new Copic markers at my Mom's house. Speaking of my Mom (she love sit when I mention her on my blog!) she bought me that DP- it is from the Paper Studio. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink.

One last secret about my card... the model started out as a blonde but her hair clashed with the paper so I gave her a "dye job!"

One more bit of news that I teased you with last week... I got a very exciting e-mail last week. Belinda Landtroop, owner of Clear Artistic Stamps, offered me a position on her regular design team! It took me about 30 seconds to say yes! The team is lots of fun and very creative and I am finally on a DT for a stamp company! You'll be seeing some new cards on Friday.
