Aloha Flowers

*Tomorrow I'll have a card to show you that I made for my aunt- have no fear- I haven't forgotten how to make cards*

It took me 2 days to finish this page. Lots of Faber Castell Big Brush Markers and some Aquarelle watercolor pencil too. I was inspired by a video I saw on YouTube where a woman showed how she draws Hawaiian style flowers. They weren't terribly authentic (even she said so) but I liked the flowers.

A busy Memorial Day Weekend for us- lots of yardwork and household chores and my 10 year old had to create a large poster for a school project. I saved her a lot of time by cutting about 50 leaves of various sizes, styles and paper colors with my Slice Elite. I actually used it for quite a long time before it needed to be re-charged. I was impressed. Why did I wait so long to buy a cutting machine?

Documenting experiments

LinkLast night as I created my page, I started out in the upper left hand corner following close a flower "pattern" from my Fantastic Florals workbook. I didn't really like my rendition so I tweaked the design and by the time I got to the end of the page I had come up with a variation that I liked. Normally, I take terrible notes when I create unless I am testing products for a Craft Critique review. But last night I made note of color combinations and differences between pen tips.

More Art Journaling

Here's my latest page. I'm still loving my Stamper's Big Brush Pens by Faber Castell. I use fine point Pitt pens for the details on the flowers but Big Brush Markers rock for the larger areas. There may be some Copic marker on my page too- I think the blues are Copic. I really wanted a Black Big Brush Marker and a Gray and in the marker aisle at Michael's on Sunday they had a 4 pack of Black, Gray, Sepia and another brown on clearance for $5.50. Those markers are usually that much each so I got a deal! I also used my 40% off coupon and bought a mixed media journal so I can create some ink and paint backgrounds without soaking through the paper.

I also bought some yarn at Michael's because I am going to attempt to learn to knit again. My brave friend Brenda is going to work with me this weekend. Pray Brenda and I remain friends even after I test her patience to the limit! Actually when I learned to knit the first time I wasn't too bad. But it has been about 3 years. She's going to teach me to make dishcloths from a simple pattern. I hit the jackpot at Michael's because the yarn I needed was on clearance for 80 cents a skein. I bought 10 skeins to share with my daughter and Brenda.

Art Journaling

LinkI've been working on some art journaling lately. I recently started using products from Faber-Castell's Design Memory Craft product line. I love the new Stamper's Big Brush Pens especially. I used a sepia Pitt Pen for the outlines and a gold metallic Pitt Artist pen to accent the butterfly wings.

For the flower above I drew it on watercolor paper and gave it a touch of color with Art Grip Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils and then used my water brush to blend the colors. The center of the flower was colored with a Big Brush Marker. The yellowish layer was colored with a yellow Big Brush marker and then I scribbled pencil on top of it before blending. It didn't blend super well but I'm just playing.

This journal page features some of the flowers I drew based on lessons from a new online book called "Fantastic Florals" by Nicolette Anderson. I'm purchased all of Nicolette's classes and this one is one of my favorites. I love to doodle flowers. Nicolette breaks down all of her doodles and I usually start following them closely and then I move in my own direction to give them my own flair.

In A Scrap Creations/ OWH Blog Hop

It's our first blog hop here at In A Scrap Creations. We are very excited about it because it's not just for our regular release but we're also doing a OWH preview. OWH stands for Operation Write Home . The design team has created cards for the troops to use to send back to their families when they are deployed. These will be sent to OWH to be distributed to the troops abroad.

There are specific guidelines you need to follow if you want to join us in making cards for the troops. You will find them here.

We'd love it if you created our own card and/or cards to ship to OWH. If you do, please post it on your blog and link it in the comment section of the post on the IASC blog.

Also, we are doing our IASC release. This month is "Silly Owls"...the set is $3 and you get 6 images (that's only 50 cents each)...these are pre-coloured and ready to use for your quick card needs. You will find them listed here.

School is ending in a month or so and you'll need those grad cards for your graduating students, whether it's from Preschool or High School or Post-secondary education...check out what the rest of the design team has created.

Hop through the list and comment on each blog.
